The vision for OurHealth was formed through the venture of social entrepreneurship and our dedication to improving the health status of our communities.
As social entrepreneurs, we seek to analyze, to envision, to motivate, to empathize, to educate, to advocate, to enable, and to empower.
Nicole Farmer, MD
Prior to forming OurHealth, Dr. Farmer established herself in the fields of medicine and clinical research. Dr. Farmer is a former clinical research fellow at the National Institutes of Health where she conducted research on the health burdens of diabetes and heart disease in African-American communities. She is also a prior recipient of the Novo Nortis research scholarship for Diabetes research. Dr. Farmer received her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine and completed her residency in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. Currently, Dr. Farmer holds a coveted faculty position at one of the leading medical schools and hospital in the country. Dr. Farmer also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Cellular, Molecular Biology and Genetics. Dr. Farmer is a proud member of the American Medical Association, The National Council of Negro Women, Inc and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Erika Evans-Weaver, MA, LMFT
Mrs. Weaver is a specialist in the fields of family and sexual therapy and is a contributor to sexualhealth.com. She has a private practice in Marriage and Family Therapy and serves as an Adjunct Professor at local universities in Pennsylvania. A Co-founder of OurHealth, Erika is also a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of Education at Widener University, her focus is on Human Sexuality and Education. Erika holds two Master’s Degrees: one in Education from Widener University with a concentration in Human Sexuality, and a Master’s of Arts in Psychology with a concentration on Marriage and Family from LaSalle University. As a noted speaker and presentor, she has worked with organizations throughout the Philadelphia region, including the School District of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. She received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in French and Spanish from West Chester University
Karen Cherfils, MPH.
Mrs. Cherfils is an expert in public health and is also a health copy editor/writer securing a variety of government and community based projects, including the North Central Brooklyn Community’s Maternal & Child Health Resource Directory that she designed, edited, and published for New York City’s Department of Health, Healthy Start Program. Karen earned a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Drexel University, School of Public Health, where her concentration was health management and policy. While there she was awarded a Health Policy Fellowship at NIH’s National Center on Minority Health & Health Disparities. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Hampton University.
